Classic lazy dumplings are a favorite dish that can be prepared quickly and without hassle. It is ideal for breakfast, lunch or dinner, because the dumplings turn out tender, tasty and hearty. Thanks to the simplicity of preparation, lazy dumplings often become a real salvation for those who want to please themselves or their family with homemade food, but do not have a lot of time to cook.

Ingredients

  • 500g cottage cheese (preferably low-fat or medium-fat)
  • 1 egg
  • 2-3 tablespoons sugar (to taste)
  • 1 packet of vanilla sugar (optional)
  • 150-200g flour
  • Pinch of salt
  • Butter for serving
  • Sour cream or jam for serving

Instructions

  1. In a deep bowl, mash the cottage cheese with a fork or rub it through a sieve to make the mass more homogeneous.
  2. Add the egg, sugar, vanilla sugar (if using), and a pinch of salt. Mix all ingredients thoroughly until smooth.
  3. Gradually add flour to the cheese mass, constantly stirring. The dough should be soft and slightly sticky.
  4. Place the dough on a lightly floured surface and knead it slightly.
  5. Divide the dough into several parts and roll each into long ‘sausages’ about 2 cm in diameter.
  6. Cut the ‘sausages’ into pieces about 2-3 cm long. These will be your lazy dumplings.
  7. Sprinkle the dumplings with flour so they don’t stick together.
  8. Bring salted water to a boil in a large pot.
  9. Carefully drop the dumplings into the boiling water and stir to prevent them from sticking to the bottom.
  10. Cook the dumplings for 2-3 minutes after they float to the surface.
  11. Remove the ready dumplings with a slotted spoon and transfer to a plate. Add a piece of butter and mix.
  12. Serve the lazy dumplings hot with a spoon of sour cream, jam, honey, or condensed milk.

Tips

  • For a softer texture, rub the cottage cheese through a sieve or use a blender.
  • You can add raisins, dried apricots, or other dried fruits to the dough.
  • To prevent the dumplings from sticking to your hands, periodically moisten them with water or sprinkle your hands with flour.
